Comune di Naro
It is perhaps the most famous monument of Naro, whose history is identified with its vicissitudes. It can be said that the castle is the very reason for being of the City, because without it, perhaps, Naro would not have been a reality or its becoming would have had other manifestations.
The site was certainly chosen not only for its defensible characteristics, but for those connected with the control of the wide and fertile valley. Therefore, under the Arabs first and under the Normans and the Chiaramontes afterwards, the Castle assumed not only the military defense limited to local needs, but also that of a fundamental element for the structure and territorial organization of a vast integrated area, in other words, in the control system of the island, as a strategic territorial garrison.
This position, maintained and increased over the centuries, meant that Naro, a melting pot of civilization, history and art, and its Castle became the scene of important events, some of which even had an impact on the history of the island. Imposing in its profile of yellow stone, the Castle still seems to watch over both the old houses of the ancient “village”, almost crouched under the mighty wings of the old Manor, and the buildings of the new part of the City, evoking, motionless witness, images that they keep the seal of time intact.
